Fine Art Portraiture

Pablo Picasso once said that ‘art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life,’ and this is the approach Lorén takes with her fine-art style portrait photography sessions.

Whether it is a pregnant woman, a young child, a boudoir shoot created as a gift for a special person or even a rugged Hawke’s Bay farmer with his dogs, every subject shines when an idea, craft and passion are brought together.

Women, celebrated.

Lorén’s fine art style celebrates the beauty and strength of being a woman by capturing each subject’s unique essence with elegance and grace. Her portraits, sometimes in the boudoir style, sometimes simply as women are in their everyday lives, especially on the farm, honours the beauty of the female form, highlighting their individuality and confidence. Through carefully crafted lighting, composition and subtle retouching and editing, Lorén creates heirloom images that her subjects often tell her are treasured family memories and beautiful gifts to give either to themselves, or the special person in their lives.

Rural people as the Hero.

Lorén brings a unique perspective to her portrait photography, grounded in her deep understanding of farm life. She knows firsthand that the work is gritty, demanding, and real, yet she also sees the strength and quiet beauty in the people who live it - men included. Her strength is in capturing the rural spirit authentically, incorporating the tools of the trade and the things rural people cherish: loyal dogs, steadfast horses, trusted guns, and more. Each portrait reflects the rugged grace and resilience of those who call the land home, creating timeless images that celebrate their connection to the land and to what they love.

The Process

Working from her rural property at Patoka, 45 minutes from Napier, Lorén has a bespoke approach for each portrait commission. She takes time first to understand the style and mood her clients are seeking from a finished artwork, and then together with them plans clothing and props (if required).

From a selection of images, a single photograph is selected for further post-production work in Lorén’s award-winning style and the work is then available for purchase as a fine art print, or if you prefer a more natural style, several images can be refined and presented as a box set.

Lorén does not sell digital files. Her passion is to create original artworks to be seen, loved and lived with in the real world…passed down to the next generation in years to come, as family heirlooms, just like we did with photos of our grandparents.
