Hi, I’m Lorén.
My family and I live a gorgeously quiet life on our sheep and beef farm in Patoka, Hawke’s bay.
I’m one of 27 photographers in New Zealand to hold the title of Grand Master of Photography with the NZIPP (New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography) – the highest honour awarded by the industry. And while I’m proud of every image that has won an award to help me earn this title, it’s less about medals and more about always striving to create work that truly means something for me, and pushing myself to improve my craft year-on-year.
My photography journey began in 2010 with night classes, and developed into second shooting at weddings and experimenting with different styles of photography. I discovered my passion lay in portraiture, especially the fine art style where the focus is on creating images that are artistic, intentional, and often emotive – more like a painting than a snapshot – with careful attention to lighting, posing, and storytelling.
My absolute joy comes from creating bespoke images, crafted into beautifully printed heirloom portraits that take pride of place in your home. I understand the place digital photography holds in the modern world but I’m a true believer in the enduring power of a photograph on beautiful, high quality paper, printed expertly and framed so it becomes a genuine piece of art.
I’d love you to experience a personal sitting with me, or to create an original floral artwork via one of my workshops, so that together, we can create a legacy image that you will be proud to pass on for generations to come.
Recent NZIPP Iris Awards
Since first giving it a shot, literally, more than a decade ago, I’m a little bit proud to say that I’ve won more than 50 Iris awards, including Highest Scoring Print in 2019 and Regional Photographer Of The Year for Central districts just this year. I put so much time into these ‘babies’ of mine, so I don’t like to play favourites, but here are a few of my most recent winning images, which can all be purchased as fine art prints in a range of sizes from my online shop.
And if you love this style, why not join me at my little flower farm and studio for a one-on-one workshop where you’ll create your own floral arrangement for me to photograph…just for you.
